Portugal and Iceland clash in Budapest
There will only be one match played in Hungary on Friday at the EHF EURO 2022 as Portugal and Iceland face off in the Budapest handball arena at 8:30 pm.
Portugal suprised everyone as they finished 6th in the EHF EURO 2020, qualifying after a 14 year hiatus. They later got 10th place in the World Championship and 9th at the Olympics, so they cannot be considered a dark horse anymore. Iceland finished 11th last time around, then reached 20th place at the World Championships, but did not qualify for the Olympics.

Iceland lead their head-to-head score 6-4 and they faced off in the qualifications, where the home team came out victorious both times – Portugal took first place in their group in the end. All this forshadows a tight game in Budapest.
There will be two more games played on Friday, both in Bratislava.

And if we want to go as far as possible in the competition, beyond this preliminary round, we have to start our competition with a win.”
