DO MORE IDEA COMPETITION – Men’s EHF European Handball Championship 2022

DO MORE IDEA COMPETITION

… to leave valuable footprint behind!
… to take the advantages of the EHF EURO 2022!
… to reduce the carbon footprint of the European Championship together!

We announced an Idea Competition in the spring of 2021 for high school and university students, young workers and innovators interested in sustainability. We were looking forward to innovative project proposals that could help reduce the carbon footprint of the EHF EURO 2022 and its side events.

WHAT WAS OUR PLAN AND GOAL?

We were looking for environmentally conscious ideas to help reduce or use the waste generated during the European Championship, to help use the logistics system of catering equipment efficiently and innovatively, and projects that reduce the energy consumption of our event.

THIS WAS THE IDEA COMPETITION

Shortly after the announcement of the Idea Competition, we held a workshop to refine the proposals, and then the professional jury selected the 15 most promising projects from the submitted ideas. We provided them with professional mentoring and coaching to develop their ideas more thoroughly – so they could prepare for the final competition. Our partners were the Hungarian Olympic Committee, the Recobin Group and the Hungarian Motorsport Development Agency.

57 teams applied for the Idea Competition, the final competition was held as part of the Eco Industria 2021 Virtual Green Industry Expo and Conference on April 28th.
WINNER OF THE COMPETITION

The Do More Idea Competition was finally won by the team of Zöldrevalók: Bence Bíró, a second-year student at Corvinus University of Budapest and Levente Fórián, a master’s student at Eötvös Loránd University, who had previously completed their undergraduate studies at the Technical University.

At the heart of their idea is a carbon neutralization interface that would be available by tablet to fans on arrival at the event or just at the buffet when they pay. The tool could be used to select whether the customer wants to contribute to the neutralization of the carbon footprint of the purchased invoiced products. This would be the sum of the carbon offset values of the individual products and would mean roughly a few tens of forints per product.

We implement the idea of the first place team of the competition.

SPECIAL AWARD WINNER

The Climate Innovation Community, which pays special attention to the project, offered a special award: an invitation to one of the “greentech” startup programmes, as well as a free business development mentoring training, was won by the Greenball team. They suggested the use of a sustainable armband.

The first six teams were enriched with tickets to the European Championship.
