The first episode of WGSM TV is now available on our YouTube channel and Facebook page. We launched our exclusive programme series primarily to share the latest news and curiosities about the organization and the national team of the 2022 European Men’s Handball Championship with those interested, sports and handball fans. Exciting themes, backstage secrets, „behind-the-scene stories”, exclusive content, surprise guests – these are what anyone who follows WGSM TV shows can expect. The presenter will be a familiar face to handball lovers, as we have heard Edit Szalay as a moderator at quite a few events. We asked her about the launch of WGSM TV, her expectations and of course the year left until the EHF EURO 2022.
You are an enthusiastic handball fan, since how long has this sport been playing an important role in your life?
The relationship between the two of us started in elementary school, I liked to play handball there. Unfortunately, I was injured, so I couldn’t make a big career as a player. But as a presenter in 2014, courtesy of Áron Kovács, I got to the first women’s (and also Budapest-directed) Final4, where the athmosphere completely enchanted me in seconds. From there, I date the love of the two of us.
What did you say to the request that you be able to host WGSM TV shows? What is the key point of Watch Games. See More. brand for you?
I was amazingly happy when I was asked to do this job. As early as the summer of 2018, I was a fan of the whole concept, when we presented it to the EHF Committee, I felt very comfortable with the whole application material. Then we won the organization, and now this extra role will just be a wonderful icing on this super championship cake.
What will viewers expect from WGSM TV? How are episodes structured?
The basic goal of WGSM TV is to open a channel between fans, viewers and our wonderful hands. We want to introduce the players in a new way because they are all infinitely lovable. We try to gather background information that is exciting, interesting to viewers, and not very visible elsewhere. Accordingly, we will try to invite as many players of our national team as possible to the broadcasts, and we plan something extra surprise in every part, be it the preparation of the guys, the locations of the European Championships or the background characters. Overall, we want to produce a lovable show where everyone feels good, maker, guest and viewer alike. The first broadcast will feature a larger interview with Máté Lékai, a key figure in our national team, and a funny quiz between him and László Nagy, as well as a short summary about the background work of our January press conference on ticket sales.
How was the work on the first days?
Peti, my cameraman and editor colleague and I really loved the first day of filming. It was exciting to embark on a new adventure, as we have a fairly long project ahead of us and we were already looking forward to getting to work. All participants were open and kind, so the work went smoothly. We loved it.
There is only one year left until the EHF EURO 2022. Are you counting down already?
Of course. Although this year will pass in a matter of seconds, it will still be difficult to wait. I was lucky enough to take part in several European Championships, I was there in Poland, France, Croatia and by the way, everywhere the home fans can enjoy the tournament mostly. I was really, really looking forward to giving the Hungarians the opportunity to support the boys at home. The Hungarian audience was amazing at both the 2014 Hungarian-Croatian Women’s World Championships and the 2018 Junior World Championships, I can’t wait to experience this again in January 2022.
